Gül Derman (1942-1994)
Modern Turkish painter. Graduated from Bedri Rahmi Eyüboglu’s atelier, Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts in 1971. Between 1975 and 1993, she continued her studies in engraving and lithography at the Salzburg Summer Academy. 1981-1993: Has been invited 6 times as guest artist to work in Salzburg lithography ateliers. 1982-1993: Worked on serigraphy at the Çamlica Art House. Within 24 years she had more than 150 exhibitions within Turkey, and 70 exhibitions abroad, 18 of which were individual. Her paintings, lithographic and serigraphic works on the “Legends of Istanbul” were collected and published as an art book by the Ministry of Culture. She has painted series: among her other favorite subjects were the “Turkish Bath (Hamams)”, “Travels” and “Istanbul from a seagull’s eye view”.
Her various awards include: UFACSI Charleroi International Female Artists Contest, Talens Special Talent Award, Belgium,1977; UFACSI Clermont Ferrand et Vichy International Female Artists Contest, Jury’s Special Prize, France, 1981; 11th Trofeo Raffaello Contest, 5th place, Milano, 1986; 13th Trofeo Dürer Contest, 3rd place award, Milano, 1987; 3rd Talens Painting Contest, Great Talens Prize, Istanbul, 1987.
